The Moran College was established with a view to catering the needs of higher education to the students of the adjacent areas in the year 1964. It was the only institution for higher education in the midst of Sivasagar and Dibrugarh district until the eighties. With the establishment of the college, the department of History also came into being. The subject of History has been taught as a core subject. The major cause in History has been introduced since the session of 1996-97 and it has got the approval of Dibrugarh University in 2003-04.
