Established in 1964 the college was started with 68 students – 60 boys and 8 girls. It got approval opening pre university classes from Guwahati University on 23rd may 1964 and finally got Deficit Grant college status from the Govt. in 1974. Since 1985 the college has been imparting higher education at degree level in both the Arts and Science stream having Core as well as Major courses.
Moran college is situated in the heart of the Moran town, under the jurisdiction of Charaideo District. Charaideo, a historically important place where the 1st King of Ahom Kingdom “Sargadeo Chukapha” established the capital, enriched with the vast treasure of minerals, heavy concentration of tea plantation, the locality also enjoys a unique place in the field of culture, arts & literature.
The college celebrated it’s Silver Jubilee in 1989 and Golden Jubilee in 2014 with many colorful programmes and academic activities.
NAAC has visited the college for two times. In its first visit, NAAC accredited the college “B” in the year 2005 and Re-Accredited ‘B Grade’ in 2012.
