Political Science as core subject in B.A. course was opened with the beginning of the college i.e in 1964. The major course of political science was opened from 1974. Mr. Tarun Gohain (from 1964-98) was the founder professor of this department. Other faculty members of this department were Late Sunit Ch. Gogoi (from 1966-85), Dr. Girin Phukan (1975-79), Late Sarbeswari Dutta 91976-2006), Dr. Jatin Chutia (1980-2018) and Dr. Rudraman Thapa(1986-95).
